Screen content getting progressively blurry

After upgrade from cosmic to disco I'm encountering the following issue:

the content of my screens are getting progressively blurry, until I move my mouse over an area, which then gets refreshed and becomes sharp again. It then immediately starts to deteriorate after that. Events that affect the screen as a whole like trying a print screen refocus the whole screen at once.

I had the same issue after the upgrade to cosmic when that was released, but for the life of me I can't remember how I fixed it.

Any suggestions are welcome.

I'm using NVIDIA driver 390 (newer drivers no longer support my card apparently)

We need some info about your graphics. Open a konsole and install the inxi utility

sudo apt install inxi

Then in the konsole enter

inx -Gxx

then copy and paste the results into a CODE box (the # button) in your reply.
