Display resolution can NOT be changed

The installation of 19.04 into Virtual Box went without a hitch, but I can
not change the display resolution. It is stuck on 800x600 and will not let
me accept the change that is made. Both the new Ubuntu and Mate
    versions will make this change.

Does this have something to do with KDE vs Gnome?
    Is there a fix?

Did you install the Guest Additions from Virtual Box?

      Thanks @Snowhog.
      Yes, guest-iso, guest-modules, and host-modules are installed.
It's working for Ubuntu and Mate.

When you created the VM, how much memory and video memory did you give it? Also, are you able to simply resize the VM Desktop to get the size you want?

It got 2 GB of memory, 30 GB of disk, and 128 MB of video.
I had to switch to scaled mode to get it to go full screen, but
that was true for the others, too.

The 128 MB for video is likely too little. How much RAM do you have on the PC (not the VM)?

I have 8 GB of RAM -- 7 can be used.

The VB default video RAM is only 16 MB! Max is 128 MB. I tried to get it to go
bigger, but it doesn't allow more. VB is Version 6.0.4 with 6.0.5 being the current one.

              Xubuntu also works just fine.
