Hi everyone,
I've just installed Kubuntu (as only OS after getting windows reimbursed) on my new Acer switch 1 SF114-32-P6M2. Everything works perfectly fine and all components are detected except the webcam (haven't looked at it yet) and the fingerprint reader, the latter being the matter of this topic.
I know that an unused fingerprint reader isn't the most tragic thing and I could live without it, but it's still a shame not being able to enjoy it (and a bit of an intellectual challenge to make it work).
So I started searching the internet, found some useful stuff and after several attempts I've managed to get it detected, but I get an issue I don't understand when starting fprint_demo :
Below, the way I proceeded and my hardware & software configuration :
First I followed this guide : https://www.omgubuntu.co.uk/2013/03/...king-in-ubuntu
which consists in installing "Fingerprint GUI" :
Since the reader wasn't detected with this software, I tried this : https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+s...83/comments/21
except that I didn't use the github link that is given but this one : https://github.com/indev29/egis0570
which is the driver made by the community for my fingerprint reader.
So I installed the driver and everything looked fine ; when I start Fingerprint GUI I get my reader detected, I select it, click next, choose finger to scan, click next, and then get an error message saying :
"Could not open fingerprint device. Permission problem?"
And when launching fprint_demo, I get the error mentionned above, which is :
And something weirder : when I first type "sudo fprint_demo" without having used sudo before, I get this :
Then I press Enter again, and only then it asks for my password :
And then it says the error I would get everytimes I'd try again. I have no clue what this all means and I would be very grateful if anyone could enlighten me.
Sadly I'm still a bit of a Linux script kiddie ; I understand most of what I type and I begin to deal with bash but hell there's place for improvement. I did one year at IT university (before redirecting completely elsewhere) so I've got some computer and programming knowledge added to what I've learned by myself, but we barely started Linux, so all my apologies if I ignore obvious things I should know (I'm trying to fix that).
So here is my configuration :
Software :
Operating System: Kubuntu 19.04
KDE Plasma Version: 5.15.4
KDE Frameworks Version: 5.56.0
Qt Version: 5.12.2
Kernel Version: 5.0.0-25-generic
OS Type: 64-bit
Hardware :
Acer Switch 1 SF114-32-P6M2
Processors: 4 × Intel® Pentium® Silver N5000 CPU @ 1.10GHz
Memory: 3,7 Gio
eMMC 64Go
My fingerprint reader :
EgisTech Touch Fingerprint Sensor
egis0570 (https://github.com/indev29/egis0570)
Bus 001 Device 002: ID 1c7a:0570 LighTuning Technology Inc.
Any help would be greatly appreciated !
