Edit: After attempting various acpi boot options, incl. nolapic and even upgrading to the 4.19 kernel I've come to the conclusion that while my tablet is ready for Linux (each Windows update slows it down more and more) sadly Linux isn't ready for my tablet (had hoped since it's 3 years old now it would have had full hardware support by now).
As such it's going to have to go back to Windows with its' 50% reduction in free RAM and 50% reduction in free drive space.
Thanks,
Chief
