One of the things I noticed when switching from Windows 10 years ago to Kubuntu was that the Kubuntu fonts somehow didn't look as crisp and clean as what I was used to, somewhat washed out. But I thought this may be down to graphics drivers and the gpu vendors not doing a proper job, and after a while you don't notice any longer anyway. But given that I have to use Win10 every now and then I kept on getting reminded on how clean the fonts look like there.
Now the first thing I notice after I installed 18.10 in a VM is that the fonts look a lot crisper and cleaner!
To the left is my VM, on the right my production system. At least to my eyes the left is a significantly better! On par with Windows 10 in my opinion!
If any of the devs is reading this, first of all well done! And second, never underestimate how important the UI design is. If things look good right out of the box that's something very important from an acceptance point of view! Even though you might not realize what it is you like :-)
I know from my 18 years of working at a global software company that for end users looks will always trump functionality! It's only after some time when the missing parts become apareant that people will consider differently. And as the saying goes, there's only one chance to make a first impression!
So I don't know what you changed (Font size? font type?) but the result is a feature in it's own right which will drive Kubuntu/KDE acceptance.
The fingerprint scanner didn't make it into 18.10? At least I can't find it.
First time I see Discover in a while, says one packages needs to be updated but doesn't do anything when "Update All" is clicked. So nothing new here :-)
Have to sit on my hands, but with the release one week away it's probably not worth messing around with the beta :-)
