Muon Package Manager Removed and Cannot be Installed

I realize that 18.10 is still in early stages of development but for some time now I cannot install Muon and have resorted to Synaptic. When I try to install Muon i get:
    Code:
    :~$ sudo apt install muon
    Reading package lists... Done
    Building dependency tree
    Reading state information... Done
Some packages could not be installed. This may mean that you have
requested an impossible situation or if you are using the unstable
distribution that some required packages have not yet been created
or been moved out of Incoming.
The following information may help to resolve the situation:

The following packages have unmet dependencies.
muon : Depends: software-properties-kde but it is not going to be installed
E: Unable to correct problems, you have held broken packages.
    :~$
If I try to install software-properties-kde I get:
    Code:
    :~$ sudo apt install software-properties-kde
    Reading package lists... Done
    Building dependency tree
    Reading state information... Done
Some packages could not be installed. This may mean that you have
requested an impossible situation or if you are using the unstable
distribution that some required packages have not yet been created
or been moved out of Incoming.
The following information may help to resolve the situation:

The following packages have unmet dependencies.
    software-properties-kde : Depends: python3-software-properties (= 0.96.24.36) but 0.96.25 is to be installed
E: Unable to correct problems, you have held broken packages.
    :~$
I have checked with Synaptic and it found no broken packages.

I was hoping that today's update to KDE Plasma Version 5.13.4 would fix this problem but it still exists. I am hoping that my use of pre-release packages is not the source of my problem.

So any help on how to resolve this problem would be welcome.

I have muon 4:5.8.0-1ubuntu1 and software-properties-kde 0.96.24.36 installed by default on my Cosmic. I went for the full install and not the minimal option. But no sign of KDE Plasma 5.13. I still have 5.12.6. I see 5.13 mentioned in https://lists.ubuntu.com/archives/co...July/date.html though. So it'll turn up soon for me

      It is.

software-properties-kde has been ported to pure qt, so is now software-properties-qt

Muon needs to be modified to use this, which we are hoping for a new release of Muon to do so (instead of us patching it).

Packages depend on Qt 5.11, which is currently stuck in -proposed pocket due to other incomplete transitions (e.g. ffmpeg 4).

So not our fault, but might be a while before it gets through to cosmic release.

I am starting to think that the other repositories that I use could have been the source of my problem. The additional ones that I have added are:
          Code:
          http://ppa.launchpad.net/kubuntu-ppa/staging-plasma/ubuntu/
          http://ppa.launchpad.net/kubuntu-ppa/backports/ubuntu/
Maybe the repository that provided the KDE Plasma Version 5.13.4 was the staging-plasma one.

            No, as said, this is:

            https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source...erties/0.96.25

Which is in the -proposed pocket of the main archive.

Thanks for clarifying! You guys are doing the heavy lifting which is much appreciated!

                +1

At least there is and alternative to Muon, as there is often an alternative to problems encountered. I am glad for the clarification and I am prepared to wait for the solution to come.

I must say that I am impressed with the current state of progress and stability of my system which has KDE Plasma 5.13.4, Frameworks 5.47.0, QT 5.11.1 and Kernel 4.18.0-2. I am so pleased to be now rid of the blurred background on my desktop images.

Lets see if this works ok.

                  https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source...5.8.0-1ubuntu2

                  muon (4:5.8.0-1ubuntu2) cosmic; urgency=medium

                  * Switch depends from software-properties-kde to newly ported
                  software-properties-qt.
                  * Provide a compatibility symlink so Muon can still launch software-
properties. Can be dropped when a new Muon release adapts to the
kde -> qt binary name change.

As this problem only affects those using the proposed repository, you will be pleased to know that muon now works. I had to use Konsole and enter the install command, ie
                    Code:
                    sudo apt install muon
and this leads to the installation of muon and related packages plus the setting up other applications.

A job well done, thanks very much.
