Share your experience with upgrade from 18.04 to 18.10

Hello guys,
Please share here your experience with upgrading Kubuntu from 18.04 to 18.10.
I want to avoid troubles which I (and probably many other people) had with upgrade from 17.10 to 18.04 - all my upgrades failed totally, and complete resintallation was needed.

When I installed Kubuntu 18.04, I selected the "minimal desktop" install option, which for example, doesn't install Akonadi or any of the packages that depend on it.

sudo do-release-upgrade updates to 18.10's full desktop with akonadi, games and stuff that I don't want. I've restored 18.04 from backup.

I had the same experience. It took me a while to remove this extra packages I do not need.
