Steam controller not detected in steam client

I checked in KDE settings under joystick and Cosmic is detecting it. When I try to configure it in the Steam for Linux client, steam can't detect it. Is Linux not communicating with the steam client?

This command

sudo apt install steam-devices

, followed by a reboot did it. Once I was in the game I switched to a gamepad in the options and now the game works. The camera won't work but everything else does. I am hopeing it's just a matter of selecting the correct controller configuration in steam.
