LVFS firmware package updates crash my Alienware 17 R5 on restart when run

    Hi there.

My Kubuntu 18.10 install works *flawlessly* on my Alienware 17 R5, but I did notice one hiccup and I'm wondering where best to report the issue.

One day when I was installing regular software updates (apt-get update / apt-get upgrade) I saw an 'lvfs' package go by. I know those are Firmware updates. When I restarted my system after the package installed, it ended up in a state where the screen stayed black, the Alien logo lights stayed on, and the fan ran, but the machine was otherwise unresponsive.

Thankfully "hard" rebooting the system fixed the issue and I haven't had a problem since.

Can anyone suggest where I should best report this issue please?

    Thanks!

Don't use "apt-get upgrade". Use apt-get dist-upgrade (or the current, apt full-upgrade) instead. See man apt-get (or man apt) to understand the difference.

Will that somehow keep the lvfs updates from crashing my machine? Good advice in any case, thanks!
