Just upgraded to 18.10 hoping that there is now proper support for larger than 8192x8192 with Intel 6th generation and above GPUs and multiple displays. There is not.
These GPUs support three discrete display channels of up to 4096x2304 as per https://www.intel.com/content/www/us...s-drivers.html. xrandr shows the maximum still at 8192x8192 after install:
$ xrandr
Screen 0: minimum 320 x 200, current 3840 x 2160, maximum 8192 x 8192
This means that I cannot use my 4k display, the laptop display, and an additional 2560x1440 display without enabling the Nvidia GPU in my laptop, which makes it sound like a jet engine. Ubuntu 18.04 (gnome) and Windows 10 both properly support the larger max boundary.
There's even a suggested patch that has been available for some time: https://askubuntu.com/questions/1045664/kubuntu-18-7th-gen-intel-graphics-incorrect-max-resolution
Any chance this can get fixed?
