I did the updates today with Synaptic and after rebooting my system froze. No Grub selection screen, just a blinking cursor in the upper left corner of the screen.
This is the update history from synaptic: intel-microcode (3.20190618.0ubuntu0.18.04.1) to 3.20191112-0ubuntu0.18.04.2
linux-generic (4.15.0.66.68) to 4.15.0.69.71
linux-generic-hwe-18.04 (5.0.0.32.89) to 5.0.0.35.93
linux-headers-generic (4.15.0.66.68) to 4.15.0.69.71
linux-headers-generic-hwe-18.04 (5.0.0.32.89) to 5.0.0.35.93
linux-headers-virtual (4.15.0.66.68) to 4.15.0.69.71
linux-image-generic (4.15.0.66.68) to 4.15.0.69.71
linux-image-generic-hwe-18.04 (5.0.0.32.89) to 5.0.0.35.93
linux-libc-dev (4.15.0-66.75) to 4.15.0-69.78
It would boot fine after a complete power off but not with soft reboot or with the or by hitting the reset switch. Since there was a kernel upgrade, I assumed it was the new kernel but booting to the previous kernel produce the same results. The 2 other OS's I boot to worked fine just not Kubuntu.
This is probably hardware related as well, I have an Intel core i9 9920x cpu.
Noting that there was an intel-microcode update, I decided to roll back to the previous version and that fixed it.
Hopefully this will help someone else.
