Hi all. After a recent update (today even), I started to notice that certain programs, primarily internet based ones, have an odd habit of freezing for no good reason for a period of time, usually up to a minute, and then unfreezing again, with no good explanation as to why. It wasn't happening until today, and only after updating some library files that discovery said needed updating. Now, for example, Krusader will hang randomly, for up to a minute or so, when handling SMB shares, Pidgin just freezes at random, but usually when I'm in a chat window, and Thunderbird seems to choke on incoming mail with attachments. So far Waterfox hasn't displayed any of these issues. So I'm trying to figure out the best way to troubleshoot this and find out what's causing the issues. Like I said, it wasn't happening prior to today's update, so I'm not sure what changed to cause the issue. Any ideas are welcome.

Hmm, interesting new observation. It appears that the issue may be centered around whenever they're trying to write logs or disk files. So it may just be a coincidence that it's having issues with network based programs, as it looks to be more of a disk issue. Or, at least that's my guess based on the new observation as the issues with attachments hanging the system in Thunderbird would also be a disk related issue, as would the Krusader stuff. Weird.
One other thought just dawned on me. I remember when I was trying to install Kubuntu 18.04 on this system, it refused to see the new SSD drive until I unplugged the HDD Sata 2 backup drive. I know, weird, right?Last edited by megosdog; Nov 19, 2018, 11:32 AM.

Your "invisible drive" problem suggests that the two devices were sharing the same /dev/sdXN path, or they were switched when plugged in or unplugged."A nation that is afraid to let its people judge the truth and falsehood in an open market is a nation that is afraid of its people.”

Ah, okay. As for the other problems, it's looking a lot like the bios are just too old to take this SSD, so I'm gonna have to switch back to my old drive and just run with that. Nuts. Plus, Lenovo never updated their bios after the system was released, which double sucks on an epic level. I was so enjoying this new SSD. *sigh*

Make a complaint to Lenovo. It is possible they do have an update to your BIOS.Windows no longer obstructs my view.
