[KDE] Just upgraded to 18.04. Where is Muon?

I just upgraded from 16.04 to 18.04. Full system specs are in my profile.

I can't find Muon anywhere in the application launcher. It's not in the system menu, or any other menu of the launcher.

For that matter, Discover is missing, too.

    Did I miss a memo?

muon isn't included in the installation .iso IIRC; you just have to install it. Discover should be present, I think.
Windows no longer obstructs my view.
Using Kubuntu Linux since March 23, 2007.

      sudo apt update
      sudo apt install muon

Discover is there on a fresh install, but I always uninstall it.
In the launcher is a search box. Enter "Discover" in it and it will list it.

        Roger that, thank you.

Re Discover, it is nowhere to be found. A search on "discover" in the launcher search bar turns up only Amarok among applications.

Some packages could not be installed. This may mean that you have
requested an impossible situation or if you are using the unstable
distribution that some required packages have not yet been created
or been moved out of Incoming.
The following information may help to resolve the situation:

The following packages have unmet dependencies:
muon : Depends: software-properties-kde but it is not going to be installed
E: Unable to correct problems, you have held broken packages.

            Run
            Code:
            sudo apt update
            and
            Code:
            sudo apt full-upgrade
If there is anything unsettling about the output, press "n" to exit and post the entire output of both commands here.

Can you install anything from the command line? If so, install inxi and post the output of
            Code:
            inxi -Fxxxz
            here.

            Follow that up with
            Code:
            inxi -r
and post that here as well.

Looks like you had or have another desktop environment installed.

Some of the packages being suggested for autoremoval are not part of Kubuntu 18.04.

                One, libkf5pimtextedit5abi1, isn't even in https://packages.ubuntu.com/: libkf5pimtextedit5abi1

                apt-config-icons-hidpi apt-config-icons-large apt-config-icons-large-hidpi
are present in most flavors. I don't know why they're being thrown out as well.

Upgrading itself can be tricky. Upgrading with two desktops present adds to the complexity.

                What does
                Code:
                ls /usr/share/xessions
                show?

What sort of system have you upgraded from
                Kubuntu 20.04

Packages identified for autoremoval doesn't mean they are being uninstalled. Autoremoval of installed packages just means that the download .deb package, which is still on the PC, isn't required anymore, so it can be deleted, freeing up space.

                  From the apt-get man page:
                  • clean: clean clears out the local repository of retrieved package files. It removes everything but the lock file from /var/cache/apt/archives/ and /var/cache/apt/archives/partial/. When APT is used as a dselect(1) method, clean is run automatically. Those who do not use dselect will likely want to run apt-get clean from time to time to free up disk space.
                  • autoclean: Like clean, autoclean clears out the local repository of retrieved package files. The difference is that it only removes package files that can no longer be downloaded, and are largely useless. This allows a cache to be maintained over a long period without it growing out of control. The configuration option APT::Clean-Installed will prevent installed packages from being erased if it is set to off.
                  • autoremove: is used to remove packages that were automatically installed to satisfy dependencies for some package and that are no more needed.

Every command has a manual page, if you want to know what their parameters are or what each of them do, just type in the shell man <command> Ex. man apt-get

                    Isn't that "autoclean"?

That is leftover from yakkety or backports ppa.

                          Try:

                          apt-get install muon software-properties-kde

                          if that fails with:

Depends: another-package but it is not going to be installed

                          then do

                          apt-get install muon software-properties-kde another-package

and repeat that process until apt give you a sensible verbose reason why it can't install things, or it says it can but it would require uninstalling or downgrading something else.

Weird. If I have another desktop environment installed, I don't know about it.

What sort of system have you upgraded from
As stated in OP, I upgraded from 16.04 to 18.04. The 16.04 installation was a complete takeover of a former Win 8, then Win 10, system. I installed from a 16.04 .iso on a stick, and wiped off Windows completely. My current system specs are in my profile.

By the way, I want to say thank you to everyone who is taking the time to help. I do appreciate it.

Thank you, acheron. I'll go through your instructions later and will report back.

Just to clarify: when you say to enter

                              apt-get install muon software-properties-kde another-package

. . . do you actually mean to type, literally, another-package ? Or is that placeholder text for a valid package name?
