VLC sound issue

Installed (clean install) 18.04 about 6 days ago. Halfway through a DVD (movie) the sound suddenly cuts out, checked all the settings, everything looks normal. I went so far as to uninstall, reinstall and update/upgrade via Konsol. If I close VLC and restart where the sound cut off it works fine.
I did load SMPlayer and it worked fine all the way through, the sound did not cut off. No problem with sound in streaming videos either.

I've been using SMPlayer for a couple of years and have never had trouble with it. It is my player of choice now.

Let me second that SMPlayer recommendation. I've also used it for several years and it has features that I like. One in particular is the 10 second advance/rewind buttons.
