Fresh Retail Install - Installed Games Not Shown In Start Menu?

    Hi,

Was hoping this was fixed in Retail version but it's still an issue.
I downloaded Retail version of Kubuntu 18.04 64Bit LTS and put it on a USB drive with "mkusb".
I dusted off my very old first thin client (a Zotac ZBox) and installed Kubuntu via USB drive.

I then proceeded with my regular software installs, but when I started installing "games",
the installed "games" were not shown in the Start menu and "Games" category was grayed out.
The only way to fix this is to manually edit the Start menu and add something then reboot.
Upon reboot the installed "games" finally show in Start menu.

I've installed Beta1 onto 4 different computers and Retail onto one other computer - all show this issue?
I tried both "Discover" and "Muon Package Manager" and same for both.
    Everything else looks solid, Thanks!

Do you mean "Release" instead of "Retail"?

      LOL!
      You probably meant "Release".

That may have been a beta1 problem. Have you upgraded since Beta1?
I just checked my fresh install of the Release version of Kubuntu 18.04.
There were no games installed so the Games menu did not appear.
Using Muon I installed a couple games from the repository and then the Games menu appeared.
      That's normal behavior.

        Hi,

I downloaded current *finished* "Release" and put it onto a USB thumb drive.
I can't believe I am the only user to see this behavior.
It's the only issue I see at this point...

Did you run a checksum against the ISO, and then the LiveUSB?

So far you are the only one reporting this issue.

            Ok...

The issue above is when the installed software category is not in the menu it fails to be shown.
I installed SmartGit DEB from their website and "Development" in menu was empty and grayed out.
This needs to be investigated and fixed...

Could it be that they haven't provided the appropriate "Category" content in the .desktop file?

              They also have
To create an icon in your menus, invoke add-menuitem.sh in the bin directory. To remove the menu item, invoke remove-menuitem.sh in the bin directory.

                Hi,

No - the category is created in the menu, but it's empty and grayed out...

Try putting a semi-colon at the end of the line:
                      Categories=Development;RevisionControl;
                      instead of
                      Categories=Development;RevisionControl

See https://specifications.freedesktop.o...t/ar01s03.html for the use of ";" at the end of a list.

If the developers investigated, based on the info you’ve supplied, but can’t replicate what you think is a bug, how can they “fix it”?

                              Obviously more information is needed.
