Wallpaper Background Always Blur

For my wallpaper, I prefer to use past significant pictures that I have taken or collected. These are stored in a separate folder. I change the picture every 5 minute and I have the "Background" defined by a "Solid colour".

For some time now I have been frustrated by KDE Plasma always putting the "Background" to "Blur" even though my Wallpaper is defined as "Solid colour".

If I change the time by 1s and "Apply", the Blur Background changes to the Solid colour that I have defined. To me this indicates that the software that does the initial writing of the Wallpaper is referencing the wrong address.

Why such a simple problem cannot be easily fixed is beyond me. Or am I mistaken?

I have seen bug reports about the image being blurred, but I have not been able to find one regarding the background being blurred when a solid colour is defined.

If there is no bug report on this trivial problem, please let me know.

After numerous updates, this problem still remains.

Either it is much, much more complicated to fix than I thought,
Or it has been placed at such a low priority to fix that I will have to be prepared to wait much longer!

I do like the KDE approach which gives the user choice in configuring the Desktop. Unfortunately this Background Blur/Solid colour option in Desktop Settings - Plasma gives no choice!

My speculations …

Generally KDE and Qt with plasma 5 has moved to making all UI elements controllable with QML (which is javascript AFAICT) and CSS in "themes". The elements are often not separately configurable unless the theme caters for that. As, well, there's themes for different parts of the UI with confusingly overlapping applicability.

So, if you're not willing to dive into QML and CSS to modify various themes, you get stuck with the themes available, and there doesn't seem to be many and they all seem to be similar. I really would like to banish blur and translucency altogether, they hinder me a lot. Find a theme that stops something you don't like and get a lot of other stuff you don't want. Try to get back to where you were, and fail.

IMO it's front-end, appearance, arty developers who get into themes, and they tend to follow fashions, the latest cool stuff, and whatever comes out of Cupertino. Now, I appreciate those guys (meant in the gender-inclusive sense); they do stuff for us that most of us can't do well. But if you like the way things were, disappointment is your fate.

We can but hope that someone will do for plasma themes what Qtcurve does for widgets. I imagine that's hard because the details are buried in code.

About a month back my Neon system was doing the same thing upon wakeup from the lid being closed. I would right-click on the desktop, click on Configure Desktop than click on OK and it went back to normal. That bug has since gone away, and not from anything I did, AFAIK.

For my Desktop background, I have folders in my Home directory where I store favourite photos that I have taken over the years. These JPG images have different aspect ratios and I scale and keep proportions. I then set the background to a solid colour. These images I have as a Slideshow with the image changing every 5 minutes.

This has worked well for me on previous versions of Kubuntu, but it no longer works with Bionic.This problem occurred with Artful as well with the new versions of KDE Plasma. Every aspect of this setup works with the exception that the Background is "Blur" even though I have a Solid Colour defined.

I am beginning to think that some work is in progress on this, as today, when I click on "Configure Desktop" and then "OK" the solid colour appears. Previously, I had to change the time by say 1s for the solid colour to appear.
