[KDE] KDE Plasma 5 and Compiz?

The desktop cube appears to be gone when switching Activities. Anyone tried Compiz for this instead? Any other way to provide this functionality when switching Activities?

    Thanks.

    Frank.

    Hi
I went through the whole setup and don't seem to get the desktop, it just "slides".

the cube works with DESKTOPS but not activities.

The setup for "cube" has only the term "desktop" in it.

Desktop behavior / desktop effects / type "cube" in search / Desktop cube animation then it is yada yada to set it up. set the switching to maybe 200 ms to see the effect on the desktops but there does not seem to be any option for "activities" to use the cube.

Yeah, I know. That is why I was asking about Compiz. However, since I posted that, I have found out that Compiz is not under development anymore. In fact, kwin is sometimes grafted onto other desktops to give the 'eye candy' that Compiz used to provide.

Anyway, not a big deal. Once the devs get Plasma 5 working properly, perhaps then we'll get more 'eye candy'.

Thanks for checking it out anyway.

          any time old friend!

I used the "document hover" and "transparency' to grade online essays years ago,
I was able to see through the submitted essay to the "correct version" and was able to copy and paste "correct responses" into the persons document and also comment on good responses and apply a grade within must minutes and was able to turn the essay around a hundred times faster than other online instructors.
I was literally told that I was "inflating grades" because my students did so well on ensuing tests ...
The elite educationists take GREAT PLEASURE in wasting days and sometimes weeks "getting around to grading" because their time is sooooooooooooo important and the students "just need to get over it".
          aar4rrrgggghhh
          But...loved Compiz

Martin Wimpress and the Mate team include Compiz in Ubuntu Mate and so will at least keep Compiz viable for 18.04

            Code:
            compiz	1:0.9.13.1+18.04.20180302-0ubuntu1
            compiz-core	1:0.9.13.1+18.04.20180302-0ubuntu1
            compiz-gnome	1:0.9.13.1+18.04.20180302-0ubuntu1
            compiz-mate	1:0.9.13.1+18.04.20180302-0ubuntu1
            compiz-plugins:amd64	1:0.9.13.1+18.04.20180302-0ubuntu1

I have compiz version 2:0.8.14.0 ("compiz-reloaded") installed in Bionic 1804 and works with activities
Currently developed compiz-0.8 version with all the fantastic effects compiz-0.9 removed

                gjringo and chimak111:

                Interesting.

Once I get the 18.04 official release loaded, I'll get back on this. At the moment, I'm just trying to 'move into' this new Dell M7720 that came with Ubuntu 16.04 pre-loaded, to which I added the KDE metapackage. I need to at least get it set up so that I can use it for my day to day work. THEN I'll start experimenting.

Thanks again for the post. I'll be back!

Your link does not appear to work. It just takes me back to this thread.
