[SOLVED] Kontact nonfunctional. Did I do this or is it just beta problems?

    Re: Kubuntu 18.04
    i7-8700k, 16gb, 128gb NVMe boot drive.

For every part of Kontact, I get a similar message to this (For korganizer, as seen on the command line):
korganizer: relocation error: /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libKF5PimCommon.so.5abi2: symbol _ZTIN12KPIMTextEdit21SyntaxHighlighterBaseE version ABI_5_2 not defined in file libKF5PimTextEdit.so.5abi2 with link time reference
when starting Kontact, I get this after about a minute of waiting for it to start:
org.kde.pim.kontactinterface: "Cannot load library /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/qt5/plugins/kmailpart.so: (/usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libKF5PimCommon.so.5abi2: symbol _ZTIN12KPIMTextEdit21SyntaxHighlighterBaseE version ABI_5_2 not defined in file libKF5PimTextEdit.so.5abi2 with link time reference)"
org.kde.pim.kontactinterface: "Cannot load library /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/qt5/plugins/akregatorpart.so: (/usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libKF5PimCommon.so.5abi2: symbol _ZTIN12KPIMTextEdit21SyntaxHighlighterBaseE version ABI_5_2 not defined in file libKF5PimTextEdit.so.5abi2 with link time reference)"
kf5.kxmlgui: cannot find .rc file "kontactsummary_part.rc" for component "kontact"
    No such XML file "/home/yui/.local/share/kontact/default-.rc"
org.kde.pim.kdepimdbusinterface: Failure starting korgac: "KDEInit could not launch '/usr/bin/korgac'"
    org.kde.akonadi.ETM: GEN true false true

    org.kde.akonadi.ETM: Subtree: 90 QSet(98, 99, 101, 102, 90, 103, 104)
org.kde.akonadi.ETM: Fetch job took 17 msec
org.kde.akonadi.ETM: was collection fetch job: collections: 17
org.kde.akonadi.ETM: first fetched collection: "Local Folders"
/usr/bin/korgac: relocation error: /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libKF5PimCommon.so.5abi2: symbol _ZTIN12KPIMTextEdit21SyntaxHighlighterBaseE version ABI_5_2 not defined in file libKF5PimTextEdit.so.5abi2 with link time reference
Once it's running, all it shows is an empty summary window, the main toolbar has a greyed out Mail icon along with, contacts icon, feeds icon and journal icon, none of which work, bringing up a dialog with a message similar to the one above for Korganizer (the mail icon does nothing).

I apt updated last night, and this started today right after the first reboot since that update. I've made no changes to the config of Kontact or its modules.

    example, from the Journal button:
    Cannot load part for Journal.

Cannot load library /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/qt5/plugins/korganizerpart.so: (/usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libKF5PimCommon.so.5abi2: symbol _ZTIN12KPIMTextEdit21SyntaxHighlighterBaseE version ABI_5_2 not defined in file libKF5PimTextEdit.so.5abi2 with link time reference)
Have I murdered poor ol' Kontact - the main reason I love KDE - or is it just the rough-n-tumble life of using Beta? Any help appreciated. Thankies!

Just tried reinstalling most of the related packages, just in case it was something simple.
    Code:
    sudo apt install libkf5pimcommon* --reinstall
    Nope.

KDE PIM packages are transitioning to version 17.12.

At the moment that is only part done due to on one hand some block in dependencies, and on the other hand the automated package migration in error allowing the update of some packages despite the fact that their explicitly declared dependencies not coming with them (bug in archive migration I guess).

So, at the moment some of KDE PIM will either be broken or uninstallable. The ubuntu infra should have prevented this occurring, but due to some technical burp/glitch it did not.

When the blocks on the outstanding things have been resolved, this should all resolve itself.

      Apologies in the meantime.

I have the Pre-released and Unsupported Updates selected on Muon and I have had many updates including KDE PIM and calendar so there are a lot of changes being made in this area. There was a time when Kontact failed but it and KOrganizer are working very well except for a long standing error when I shutdown with Kontact running.

In fact after all the recent updates, I had a list of packages to remove. These were:
        Code:
The following packages were automatically installed and are no longer required:
        gdal-data ibverbs-providers libaec0 libarmadillo8 libarpack2 libcharls1 libdap25 libdapclient6v5 libde265-0 libepsilon1
        libfabric1 libfreexl1 libfyba0 libgdal20 libgdcm2.8 libgeos-3.6.2 libgeos-c1v5 libgeotiff2 libgl2ps1.4 libhdf4-0-alt
        libhdf5-100 libhdf5-openmpi-100 libhwloc-plugins libhwloc5 libibverbs1 libjsoncpp1 libkmlbase1 libkmldom1 libkmlengine1
        liblept5 libmpeg2encpp-2.1-0 libmplex2-2.1-0 libnetcdf-c++4 libnetcdf13 libodbc1 libofa0 libogdi3.2 libopencv-calib3d3.2
        libopencv-contrib3.2 libopencv-core3.2 libopencv-features2d3.2 libopencv-flann3.2 libopencv-highgui3.2
        libopencv-imgcodecs3.2 libopencv-imgproc3.2 libopencv-ml3.2 libopencv-objdetect3.2 libopencv-photo3.2 libopencv-shape3.2
        libopencv-stitching3.2 libopencv-superres3.2 libopencv-video3.2 libopencv-videoio3.2 libopencv-videostab3.2
        libopencv-viz3.2 libopenmpi2 libpq5 libproj12 libpsm-infinipath1 libqhull7 librdmacm1 libsocket++1 libspandsp2
        libspatialite7 libsrtp0 libsuperlu5 libsz2 libtbb2 libtcl8.6 libtesseract4 libtk8.6 liburiparser1 libvo-aacenc0 libvtk6.3
        libzbar0 odbcinst odbcinst1debian2 openmpi-bin openmpi-common proj-bin proj-data
Use 'sudo apt autoremove' to remove them.
So if you don't want to take the risks that I am prepared to take, you will have to be patient as acheron says.

Thank you both a bunch, acheron and NoWorries!

I will be taking the patience path, I knew stuff like this was a possibility when I decided to install the beta rather than 17.10. Just had to be sure it was beta issues and not my love of messing around with stuff issues

All fixed, lovely and beautiful. Send hugs all around the Kubuntu devs for me, would you, acheron?

Bionic development is still in Alpha 2. The release schedule for 18.04 can be found here: https://www.omgubuntu.co.uk/2017/10/...lease-schedule

You will note that from this site, 18.04 is in Alpha 2 and Beta 1 is on the 8th March. So I don't put this version on a production system, but keep it on an experimental system for which I use Pre-released and Unsupported Updates.
