    Me too

Since Nvidia doesn't play nice with Wayland I've only tried it once or twice - but I think X is gonna be around for a good long while.

Info Centre can crash under some situations and Spectacle is difficult to control. Also it does not work with the Nvidia card, but it does work with my Intel video card. I was using this for the above image.

I have shown below the Info Centre images from the Wayland tab:

Considering the early stages of development this is quite impressive. I could do Web Browsing and Email in the brief test that I did.

Surly a key part of the solution is to not buy Nvidea graphics cards and reward AMD and Intel with our business.

I may be testing wayland soon.

My Nvidia card fan is going "chugga chugga... squeal... grind".

So I may be falling back to onboard Intel any time NOW!

Have you tried "3-1 Oil" on the shaft where it comes out of the sealed bearings? If it is squealing it will probably allow some oil to leak in. Just a partial drop would do it right at the join.

It's one of those clip and glue together ones, with no access to that. Just the small gap all the way around.

All you can do without quite literally breaking the thing apart, is to aim some spray lubricant in the gap and pray it goes somewhere useful.

It's a cheap OEM card, so if it dies, not the biggest tragedy.

Same. Have two Sid machines with Nvidia cards, so Wayland isn't an issue for them right now. That Kubuntu 17.10 tablet I just stood up has Intel video and might be worth experimenting with Wayland.

I think we're gonna have X available for a good long time.

Or powdered graphite; I've never tried it but it makes some sense to me

While I agree that a good lubricating oil will help, I feel that it also needs a bug catcher,

I must admit that compared with last week, a number of "bugs" have been eliminated as the desktop does not crash so often. I have noticed a number of Wayland related updates over the last few days and these have improved the system reliability.

I am doing this post from Wayland which will only work on my system with the Intel Video card.

WD40 squirted in seems to have pulled the fan back from the brink of death.

Not perfect, but may last a bit...

acheron, beware of WD40, it is mostly light hydrocarbons which evaporate faster than lubricating oils. You'll need t reapply more frequently. The 3-in-1 oil will last longer.
Kubuntu 24.11 64bit under Kernel 6.12.1, Hp Pavilion, 6MB ram. Stay away from all things Google...

For the many uses of WD-40 read this link:

However, I doubt that fish oil in in WD-40. A Gas Chromatographic analysis gave:

which explains why it works related to pigeons, ants, bugs, and other creatures.

Should we start a "Fund Me" campaign to buy acheron a new video card?

Maybe he requires either a new video card or a replacement fan. Have to wait and see what he decides.

To my surprise, I now have been able to use my Nvidia card with Wayland and it behaves similarly to what I was getting with my Intel video card. I have the Nvidia 390.25 driver installed. So it looks like acheron may now be able to use his Nvidia card with Wayland.

New card? Why not a new machine?
