    Discover upgrade not reporting properly

Upgrade from 17.10 was fine ... but first post-install upgrade using Discover is not reporting its results properly. Firstly, there is no indication of progress of upgrading items in their various stages: downloading, preparing, installing... and secondly, reporting of completion is not obvious - merely a change in a text message, not really good enough for a Graphic User Interface!
Then thirdly, the Updates widget's icon in the System Tray shows a change of dot color - red to blue in default scheme - but clicking on it fails to show the true number of items (0) to update (perhaps until a fresh batch arrives?), continuing to show the number just done. Further, if it really needs to be there full-time, a more honest report would be appreciated. Else, having completed updates successfully, is there really any need to show the icon at all until more need be done?

Although I am on KDE Neon 5.12.5 still based on ubuntu 16.04 LTS I have often noticed little quirks with Discover. Right now the Update widget is reporting One Package to Update but selecting Update to bring up Discover shows No Updates. I remember seeing the Downloading progress but can't remember seeing the Installing progress. At least the update from 5.12.4 to 5.12.5 eliminated the persistent report of some package being missing.

I noticed that with Discover on Bionic, Ken. Instead of letting Discover do its thing I popped open a terminal and did the usual. For that one package apt reported "being held back". Probably because it needs other packages that the devs haven't uploaded yet.
I saw Discover report 104 packages for updating. When I opened a terminal and did "apt update" it reported 105 packages. Same thing.

Thanks, both. Apt-get update here reported nothing, as did Discover itself. It's the Tray widget not getting the true picture. Still would appreciate a more obvious GUI change, though.

Whenever Discover does a security update (red button on icon), after it finishes there's still an icon with a blue button indicating packages to update. When I click on the icon, it informs me there are no updates available. It goes away if you reboot, but who wants to do that if it's not necessary? I just let it go.

I've noticed the same thing, but it will go away with a simple logout/login.

I noticed that a couple days ago while playing around with Discover, which crashed. I opened Muon and did some work but that update icon didn't go away. I went into the system tray settings "Entries" section and selected the "Hide" option, which made it go away. Almost immediately the screen turned black, and just as quickly my desktop came back without a panel, but that returned after a couple seconds. I restored the option to "Auto" and it hasn't given me any problems since. Something Discover did when crashing?

It's working for me now for the last couple updates. Go figure...

Still needs the reboot, but haven't yet tried the logout/in. Still, it's not really right, is it? Here in NZ, with updates appearing at all hours, it would be good to have a 'clear' report (no icon in the tray) on success so the freshly-arrived ones give notification by the widget's icon appearing.

Just tried the logout/in, and it worked. good trick, but should not be necessary

I've noticed the system tray icon remaining sometimes after installing updates, and I don't normally use Discover, preferring to use the command line. I concluded that it's not a Discover problem. I think I've only used Discover to see if it would make the icon go away; it didn't.

Further Discover issue(s): is there a daemon of some sort? The Tray widget reports updates - and number of updates! Does it get that info from apt-get update? By the time taken it would seem Discover does that first up - can it not get that info from the daemon? Then the progress indication by colored wash over the size 'button' per item jumps up and down - not a smooth progress to 100%. Is there something amiss with my recently-upgraded system?
