Dolphin Network only works on 2nd attempt

Using Kubuntu 18.04.01. Referring to Dolphin/Places/Network in left pane then double click on Network in right pane or clicking on the ">" symbol. The first time this is done nothing appears however on the 2nd and subsequent attempts the expected result appears, that being a Samba share on a networked Ubuntu 17.10 machine. Is this a bug or am I missing something.

I probably have a similar thing.
Instead of Dolphin I use Krusader, and the samba share is on a Synology NAS, but the principle behind it is probably the same.

When going to the NAS share, I also need 2 attempts to be able to see the contents of the share.
The reason is that the NAS is configured to spin down the disks when there is no activity (power saving mode).
When I want to access it, the disks need to spin up again (I hear them starting during the first attempt)
The time to start the disks is just a bit longer than the samba access time-out, so the first attempt to get the NAS contents fails.
When I try again, the disks are fully started and I have access to them immediately.

I know why this happens, and it is not a big deal for me, so I never bothered to search for a solution.
The solution would be to make the samba client wait a little longer before it times out.
I suppose it could be changed by editing some configuration file , but I don't know which one (perhaps smb.conf).

There is a similar problem in dolphin mounting USB devices. Although with it there are various errors shown. Dolphin thinks there's an error but the mount is successful, and a second attempt is ok.

The problem is caused by a race condition, so is flaky and might not affect some systems.

About half way down the thread a user benvantende might have a solution:

I added the extra file ~/.smb/smb.conf [global]
client max protocol = NT1

For Kubuntu 18.04 (Samba version 4.7.6-Ubuntu)

to get it to work

In a similar openSUSE thread regarding this issue a user deano_ferrari calls it an "ugly" workaround:
