18.04.1 support for Coffee Lake UHD Graphics 610

    Hi,

I just got myself an ASRock DeskMini 310 Barebone that comes with an H310M-STX Motherboard. I want to run an Intel Celeron G4900T (Coffee Lake) with an internal UHD Graphics 610 GPU on it.

Yesterday I tried to install the latest Kubuntu 18.04.1 LTS version on this machine. But I think the GPU is not fully supported by the current kernel yet. Whenever I try to boot the installation setup or the GUI after the installation, the monitor goes dark. I have to add "nomodeset" to GRUB to enable the display.

I'm not a Linux expert but with some search on the internet I found out that for the latest Coffee Lake GPUs, the GRUB parameter "i915.alpha_support=1" has to be added. But the display still goes dark on startup. The Intel Graphics for Linux web page https://01.org/linuxgraphics also says that "Coffee Lake is the newer platform under development". So I assume that my hardware is just too new for the latest Linux Intel GPU drivers, right?

    1. Am I right with my assumption?
    2. Is there a driver available that fully supports this GPU (even if I would have to add/install it manually)?
    3. Will this GPU be supported with Kubuntu 18.10?

Many thanks in advance for your support!
