Energy Saving - What does 'Even when an external monitor is connected' do?

    Hi!

When I go to System Settings -> Power Management -> Energy Saving, I have a menu named When laptop lid is closed. I have this set to Turn off screen.

Underneath it is a checkbox with the text Even when an external monitor is connected. On my machine, this box is NOT checked.

I would assume that this means: "When laptop lid is closed, turn off screen UNLESS an external monitor is connected." But that is not what happens. When I have an external HDMI monitor attached and close my laptop lid, it turns off my laptop screen and moves all my windows to the HDMI monitor.

If I check off Even when an external monitor is connected, hit Apply and close the lid, the exact same thing happens.

Is this a bug? Or have I misunderstood what this option is supposed to do?

Have you, after making the change, tried logging out and logging back in?

Thanks for the reply. I have tried to log in and log back out - even reboot. The checkbox still makes no difference that I can see. In either case, when I close the lid, the laptop screen is turned off and all my windows are moved to the external monitor.

Does this sound like a bug? Do you know where I should report it?
