Blocky/wrong resolution on HP all in one desktop

    Hello all.

I am back at trying to get any version of linux to work on my HP all in one. Running off the live USB the display is really blocky and low res. I have been trying for a year on and off to ope something would just work from the USB, that is why I am still running windows 10 (it displays perfectly).

I have an Intel HD 4400 graphics driver, just hoping to try it again.

    Any suggestions?

What specific model HP All-in-One do you have?

Have you checked System Settings > Driver Manager to see if there is a proprietary video driver identified that needs to be installed/activated?

I've tried that, no luck. I also updated the system, but this has been a problem over 3 years I have been trying, hoping that linux would work.

It might be a hardware issue?

if it is a hardware issue ,,I would be thinking the display/monitor ,,,,the Intel HD graphics has been supported well for quite a wile .

Have you been to system settings>display and monitor and see if you can tweak things their ? and what resolution is being reported their.

It only showed a laptop display in the display settings.

On windows my resolution is 1920x1080

I do not have this option in kubuntu.

I see that, and I have the right resolution selected. You can see by the photo I am attaching how bad the display is. It is reall hard to read, blurry, like I need glasses but already have them on

I don't see much wrong with that screenshot at all. Looks fine to me.

Is it the fonts that you are finding blurry? Try adjusting the font settings (anti-aliasing) or changing the fonts/sizes to improve that. Try different themes, etc that might be more to your liking. I'm using the default Breeze theme under "Look And Feel" but in "Desktop Theme" I'm using the "Diamond" theme just now. I've tried many different desktop themes and tweaking them too as I like to get things just right (for me at least). I'm using the default Mint theme on my laptop as it looks great on that.

Check your DPI. Open a terminal and do this:

                      xdpyinfo |grep 'dim\|reso'

                      and post the output.
