17.04 to 17.10

So last night ,,,,,,I did a snapshot of my 17.04 (it's on a btrfs file system ,,,ya I used @oshunluvr's dolphin service menu ) and then did a "do-release-upgrade -d" ,,,,,,,,, 1800+ packages later ,,,,it started the unpacking process ,,,,it was late and I went to bead .

I got up this morning and it was mostly done just waiting for some removal conformation from me , I gave it and by the time I finished making my Coffey it was done and wanted to reboot ,,,we did and it booted just fine ,,,,,,,Yay , off to work.

get home and start to play with it ,,,,,working ok , but seems a bit ,,,,sluggish ,,just a bit .

wife wants to wach a TV show I have in the storage drive ,,,so we hookup the HDMI to the TV and fire up VLC ,,,,worked fine .

I want the Plasma-5.11.0 so add the "ppa:kubuntu-ppa/beta" but wind up with the Plasma-5.10.95 ? O well .

so far

Nvidia working=384.90

HDMI working +audio

Bluetooth working to a Jamclasick speaker

wireless working

more later ,,,,it's late and work comes early lol

BETA PPA! :P

At time of writing this, 5.11.0 is not officially released, and could still have some last minute changes to fix bugs before it is. So at the moment, although test builds of 5.11 are done, they are not anywhere public.

cool ,,,I'll be adding that as sone as I get back to the 17.10 install ,,,should I do a ppa-purge of that bata-PPA first you think ?

if all goes south I have my snapshot to go back to 17.04 ,,,so ,no biggie

It should upgrade ok without. In theory.

ok then ,,,,,right after the update to plasma-5.11.0 I did a reboot ,,,,or tried to ,,,,we froze with TTY type text displaying over the Kubuntu plymouth splash ,,,"Watchdog: BUG: soft lock CPU 6 non resposive 23sec " over and over then the dreaded "over heating " warnings ,,,,,time to press the power button .

Reboot to a "cant connect to /home/vinny device busy or unresponsive,,,,,black screen ,,,,,ctrl+alt+F6 to a tty and log in ,,,,,ls-la Humm /home/vinny is all hear ?

sudo sddm restart ,,,,,all black now no TTY's nothing .

ctrl+alt+del ,,,,reboot ,,,,,,,and we are in

the system settings is having the https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=382291 ,,,but the changes do take effect even though system settings is showing the default "breeze"

Done 3 upgrades, and none had issue like that! Sounds like random upgrade pains.

The GTK issue at the moment seems worse on machines where more playing around with switching/installing GTK themes off the default has been done. I get the same on Neon.
