FolderView / Desktop Black Screen

Hello,

Not sure where to post this or where to go for reporting this bug but here goes:

Right click on desktop, select configure desktop, Layout: Folder View / Desktop switching between these gives me a black screen with a mouse pointer. Desktop vanishes.
Now you can still do things. Like alt-space to bring up search and you can bring things up like konsole, firefox etc. If you type plasmashell in search box the desktop comes back.

This happens in:

Kubuntu 17.10 (with back ports added and updated system). Does not happen on a fresh install of 17.10
Kubuntu 18.04

Does not happen in Kde Neon 15.12.3

My system:
Amd Ryzen 5
Nvidia 1070 graphics card.
Happens with nouveau or proprietary drivers.

Just tried it and I get this also. 17.10 with backports being what I have in common with the OP.
