Upgrade to Plasma 5.11.2 stalls at boot screen

Today I upgraded my 17.10 system to Plasma 5.11.2 through back port reop as was announced some where else in this Forum. Upon the ensuing boot up and log-in, the system stalled at the boot screen, i.e, the black screen with the 3 dots and arrow at the center and "Plasma from KDE" at the lower right corner . I understand that this plasma has still bugs, but i thought you could still get into the system . Any suggestions?
    Thanks!

Well, first I updated my 17.10, then after adding backports repo, I did sudo apt update and sudo apt fully upgrade. All went well with no glitches at all. Then at the reboot of system i got stalled at the boot screen.

At the boot screen, that is after log-in. After logging on I got into the black screen with the 3 dots and arrow head in the center and "Plasma by KDE" at the lower right corner of it and getting no further from here.

Yes! you are right the log-in splash. Sorry for mixed-up!
Actually i tried Ctrl+Alt+F8 and I just got a blinking curser. Not knowing that i should do F6 rather. I am going to try it now and will get back soon to report.

While in a root terminal Look at the ownership of your /home/youracctname/.Xauthority ?

If it is not you change it to you.

                            The ownership is mine.
BTW, I do have access to the files on this system from my 17.04 system which is on another partition of this desk top. Anything else that I should do to have this resolved beyond a re-install?
                            Thanks!

Folks, I have Kubuntu 17.10 reinstalled on a partition on my desktop. Again by adding backport repository the system is now upgraded to the latest kde version, 3.11.4 and Qt 5.9.1. And again at regular system booting from grub, after log-in screen, the system gets stalled at boot splash with no further progress at all. However, the strange thing is, when I boot the system from Grub's recovery, the Resume option, it loads fine and gets to the desktop.
What is wrong here? Any ideas?
                              Thanks!
