How to open port for amaroKontrol?

Hi! I have Kubuntu 17.10. I am running Amarok and have installed the script amaroKontrol, which exposes a web server on port 8484 so that I can remote-control Amarok from my Android device.

My problem is that I cannot connect to that port from my phone.

When I launch Amarok, I get a popup saying "Successfully started amaroKontrol server! Port 8484".
When I access http://<ip-of-the-computer>/8484 in a browser on the computer I get a "NACK", which indicates that the page is at least responding.
When I access the same address in a browser on my phone, I am told that the server does not respond. I am guessing that this because the computer refuses to expose the connection to other machines.

Do I need to do something to open the port? I don't believe I have any firewall activated. When I run sudo ufw status, it says "Status: inactive".

    Can anyone please advise? Thanks!

Does your router have an active firewall? Mine does.

      When I access http://<ip-of-the-computer>/8484 in a browser...”

As I understand things, that isn’t the proper syntax for designating a port to connect through.

      http://<ip-of-the-computer>:8484

The colon at the end of the URL indicates that a port number is to follow.

You're right. I was using colon correctly in the browser; I just made a typo in the forum post.

Apparently rebooting my computer (which was exposing the web service) solved the problem. At least, now amaroKontrol works on my phone. Odd...

        Thanks the replies.
