I installed Kubuntu 17.10 on my intel desktop and on my Acer laptop today. I noticed that there is no audio volume and it says "No Output or Input Devices Found" on both computers. The audio volume worked on both computers with Kubuntu 17.04. Does any one else have this problem?

If I click on application launcher, multimedia, volume control, I get a message that says: connection to pulse audio failed because pulse_server in the enviroment x11 root window properties or default-server is mis-configured. Then it says that this can also arrise when the pulse server has crashed.Last edited by roadrunner58; Oct 19, 2017, 04:18 AM.

I'm having this problem too. Same messages people above are getting. Apparently Pulseaudio is refusing to load. On the terminal, I can type alsamixer and it recognize my soundcards (integrated, HDMI and a USB Asus Xonar U5).
Typing "pulseaudio" on the terminal gives me this:
clesio@HAL9004:~$ pulseaudio
E: [pulseaudio] module.c: Module "module-switch-on-connect" should be loaded once at most. Refusing to load.
E: [pulseaudio] main.c: Module load failed.
E: [pulseaudio] main.c: Fail to load daemon. If you find a grammar error in my text, is because English is not my native language :-)

Have you tried doing a re-install of pulseaudio?

Hi guys, I am lost audio after upgrade from 17.04 to 17.10 as well. In settings is only some Default device.
Code:$ pulseaudio W: [pulseaudio] module.c: module-combine is deprecated: Please use module-combine-sink instead of module-combine! W: [pulseaudio] module-combine.c: We will now load module-combine-sink. Please make sure to remove module-combine from your configuration. E: [pulseaudio] module.c: Module "module-switch-on-connect" should be loaded once at most. Refusing to load. E: [pulseaudio] main.c: Module load failed. E: [pulseaudio] main.c: Fail to load daemon.

Same problem after upgrading from 17.04 on Dell XPS13-9343.
In system settings I found that I could not start the hardware detection.
I tried to install every hardware driver for soundcards that looked good via synaptics and installed alsa, without any effect.

Any suggestions?? I'd be thankful.
Update; same pulseaudio output as posted above. Reinstalling it doesn't work.

and have seen another comment that:
Okay, editing /etc/pulse/default.pa and commenting the last 3 lines …
###.ifexists module-switch-on-connect.so …
###load-module module-switch-on-connect …
###.endif
seems to solve the issue.

Commenting the last 3 lines in "/etc/pulse/default.pa" (using nano), then pressing Alt+F2 and executing "pulseaudio" fixed it for me instantly.
So, the problem is the option to "Automatically switch all running streams when a new output becomes available". I had this marked and after a reboot the bug was triggered. It is a good idea to put this on The Kubuntu website under the known problems, so people can avoid it.If you find a grammar error in my text, is because English is not my native language :-)
