How to get Plasma 5.9.5 and Frameworks 5.33

Today I found that Plasma 5.9.5 and Frameworks 5.33 is available for Zesty. To get it I entered the following:
    Code:
    sudo add-apt-repository ppa:kubuntu-ppa/staging-frameworks
    sudo add-apt-repository ppa:kubuntu-ppa/staging-plasma
sudo apt update; sudo apt full-upgrade
I found that all these extra packages worked fine and they contain a lot of bug fixes. Hope it works well for you all!

Whilst I'm very happy that you are testing the FW 5.33 and Plasma 5.9.5 packages, I do feel that you are not fully understanding the consequences of adding these PPA's to a system.

As mentioned on the PPA description "Work in progress KDE Frameworks packages, DO NOT USE ON PRODUCTION SYSTEMS."

These packages are actively being worked on by the Kubuntu Developers, with a view to move them to the official backports PPA (Plasma 5.9.5 we are trying to get SRU into the main archive). While I am glad that in this case they have not caused any problems for you, this is not generally the case. I have absolutely no problem with people adding these PPA's to a "throw away" system, such as a VM or old hardware they have spare, but please DO NOT add these on a production or everyday system you need to be stable. I would also stress that you should always remove the PPA in question after use as these are experimental and development PPA's and we often upload broken packages in the process of trying to fix them!

If you are interested in helping to test, please come along to #kubuntu-devel on Freenode IRC and make yourself known to the team. This way, when a developer asks for help testing, you will know when it is safe to add the PPA and also be able to provide essential feedback on what needs to be fixed.

      +1 to all that.

Staging repo's is where we upload stuff that could break people's installations.

Please do not recommend people add those repositories.

If people wish to test staging stuff, please talk to us first on IRC or our devel list.

Thanks very much for the warning. I must confess that I find with my system, I have not had any trouble with pre-release software.

I am very impressed with the quality of work done by the developers and, from your saying, I will test updates on my Wife's laptop before updating my working Laptop.

My system has yet to be broken. However, one of my favourite applications exits without a trace. It is Kdenlive and I find it impossible to do complex editing. I have Intel and Nvidia video cards in my system. When I use the Intel card and start Kdenlive I get the following:
              Code:
              :~$ kdenlive
OpenGL vendor: "Intel Open Source Technology Center"
OpenGL renderer: "Mesa DRI Intel(R) Ivybridge Mobile "
              OpenGL Threaded: false
              OpenGL ARG_SYNC: true
              OpenGL OpenGLES: false
OpenGL vendor: "Intel Open Source Technology Center"
OpenGL renderer: "Mesa DRI Intel(R) Ivybridge Mobile "
              OpenGL Threaded: false
              OpenGL ARG_SYNC: true
              OpenGL OpenGLES: false
QXcbConnection: XCB error: 8 (BadMatch), sequence: 5209, resource id: 125829387, major code: 155 (Unknown), minor code: 11
When I use the Nvidia card I get the following:
              Code:
              :~$ kdenlive
              OpenGL vendor: "NVIDIA Corporation"
              OpenGL renderer: "GeForce GT 630M/PCIe/SSE2"
              OpenGL Threaded: true
              OpenGL ARG_SYNC: true
              OpenGL OpenGLES: false
              OpenGL vendor: "NVIDIA Corporation"
              OpenGL renderer: "GeForce GT 630M/PCIe/SSE2"
              OpenGL Threaded: true
              OpenGL ARG_SYNC: true
              OpenGL OpenGLES: false
What I would like to know is, what output would help the developers track down this problem. I did not experience problems with Kdenlive previously, so I am assuming that the problem is with KDE Plasma 5.9.5 or KDE Frameworks 5.33.

Please let me know what needs to be supplied.

For those who find -staging too adventurous, they are available in the Backports Landing PPAs now.
                https://lists.ubuntu.com/archives/ku...ay/062260.html

I upgraded a fresh 17.04 Virtual Machine with no problems, but as mentioned above, checking with the -devel mailing list or on #kubuntu-devel reduces your risk.

Please be extra careful with any staging repos now, as I'm building (likely) unstable pre-release stuff!
