I don't know if its Ubuntu, Plasmoid or KDE but some thing keeps causing my entire system to stutter and stall for several seconds. It's very annoying as I have to stop and wait for it to recover. This could have something to do with why kconnect keeps loosing track of my Smart phone.

Zesty Zapus is very unstable on this lap top
Just to remind users and devs that Ubuntu and its flavors have a long way to go to be as usr friendly as they should be.

Or, it could be a video and/or mouse problem. Or, flaky RAM.
The info you give is sparse to non-existent on details.
Laptop make & model, video card and driver being used, amt of RAM, mouse make & model, etc...
Any errors or unusual msgs in the system log or the output of dmesg?"A nation that is afraid to let its people judge the truth and falsehood in an open market is a nation that is afraid of its people.”

Nine year old ... 3 computer generations.
Things are going to get progressively more difficult for you as your hardware passes out of the backend of compatibility windows of hardware drivers included in the ISO.
The GMA X4500HD is used in the G45 chipset, which is capable of 1080p hi-definition playback. The current Linux driver for the G45 chipset is the i965 "intel-vaapi-driver", which is probably what your installation chose to use, if it didn't default to the VESA driver.

And here is an Intel driver page related to your chip:

When I tried to install the Linux graphics driver: https://01.org/linuxgraphics/downloa...er-linux-1.4.0 , it said:
Error can't satisfy dependences. for some reason neither the i965 "intel-vaapi-driver nor the vesa driver is installed and driver manager shows neither one just Processor micro firmware for Intel CPUs from Intle-microcode.
Does Kubuntu have the intel-linux-graphics-installer in the repos? If so what is the name of the package?Last edited by steve7233; May 23, 2017, 08:59 PM.Just to remind users and devs that Ubuntu and its flavors have a long way to go to be as usr friendly as they should be.

vince@vince-HP-Pavilion-dv6-Notebook-PC:~$ sudo apt-get install xserver-xorg-video-intel
Reading package lists... Done
Building dependency tree
Reading state information... Done
xserver-xorg-video-intel is already the newest version (2:2.99.917+git20170309-0ubuntu1).
0 upgraded, 0 newly installed, 0 to remove and 0 not upgraded.

Obviously something is very wrong since it doesn't show up in driver manager?Just to remind users and devs that Ubuntu and its flavors have a long way to go to be as usr friendly as they should be.

sudo modprobe i965 (after removing the currently loaded module and blacklisting it)
Both driver listings include *.so files (shared objects, similar to Windows DLLs), which are called by the loaded modules.
I do not know if your Zesty installation includes the i965.ko files and I'm assuming it doesn't. That would lead me to believe that the GM45 chip has moved out of the compatibility window for Ubuntu 16.04 & higher releases and the few i965 files remaining should have been removed but were missed.
When you downloaded the Intel 1.40 installer you said it had "missing dependencies" but didn't list what they were. Did you try to see if the missing packages were available in the Zesty repository, or from the Intel website?

I just found this. Not quite 17.04, but very close.
https://01.org/linuxgraphics/downloa...inux-os-v2.0.4
Of course having specific Kubuntu packages would probably be better than using generic ones from the Intel website.Last edited by steve7233; May 23, 2017, 11:50 PM.Just to remind users and devs that Ubuntu and its flavors have a long way to go to be as usr friendly as they should be.
