xorg garbled display after disconnecting secondary display

I have a Lenovo Ideapad y560. When using this laptops HDMI output as a secondary monitor, Xorg works just fine. However, if I disconnect it from the HDMI cable, after the computer goes to sleep or reboots... Xorg no longer starts. All I get is a garbled up screen.

Only way I can get it to work again is to plug in a monitor to the HDMI outlet or starting linux in rescue mode through Grub2. Though the second option gives me a limited resolution.

Video card is a ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5730.
I'm not sure where to look as I am new to this kind of issue.

    Any pointers would be appreciated.

Try turning off KScreen2 in system settings under Startup and Shutdown > Background Services.

For me, it seems to cause havoc when I switch inputs on my monitors.

That fixed it! Thanks very much. I've been struggling with this for weeks and it gets very troublesome while traveling...
