What is the functional difference between "MinimizeAll" and "Show Desktop"? The former shows a "shrinking" type of animation whereas the latter is instantaneous. But is there any other reason to choose one over the other?

"Show desktop" will temporarily hide open windows, so you can, for example, click on an icon on the desktop (or view a widget). The "hidden" windows will pop back up when you open a window (or press Esc).
"Minimize all" will minimize all windows (to the task bar), they won't pop back up until you "unminimize" them.
You can choose which behavior you find preferable, or use both of them depending on what you are doing.
