Minor little update. I've been monitoring this for a while and, while it had stopped freezing up on me at random, it was still experiencing system stutter and random pausing. Well, I finally decided tonight to go order a new ram stick to replace the old one. Oddly enough, to do that I decided to shut down, take out the bad stick, and power back on with only 8gb instead of 12gb of memory. Amazingly, when I booted back up, not only do I have LESS memory usage than normal (I was quite regularly hitting swap, oddly enough, but not anymore), but I'm also noticing that the stutter is completely gone. So yeah, that stick is NOT going back in the machine. However, I have gone and ordered two new sticks for the machine. One for in case I have another fail, and one to replace the bad stick Either way, this seems to have resolved all my persistent system issues. Darned bad ram. :P
