    how to reset KMail?

I just updated Kubuntu 14.04 to 16.04. Now I configured in KMail the first (IMAP) account with my mail server on my NAS, all works fine. I didn't use the personal local mails but I think the problem starts when I accidentally deleted two mails to the local trash. Now Kontact/KMail shows the message Could not create collection trash, resourceId: 3 after start and closes again - repeatable. KAddressbook and KOrganizer are still working fine (if started separately from KMail) - both work with local and cardDAV/calDAV data. And I get notifications in Plasma/SystemTray if a new IMAP-mail arrives in remote inbox, sent or trash. So I think akonadi works fine.

Now I want to reset KMail to reconfigure the IMAP-accounts - but how?

~/.kde/share/config/kmailrc has only one section and one line:

    Code:
    [$Version]
    update_info=mailtransports.upd:initial-kmail-migration
And there are two emailidentities-files: ~/.kde/share/config/emailidentities and ~/.config/emailidentities. Both contain identities from 14.04 that I never used in 16.04. Renaming the files doesn't helped.

In ~/.local/share/akonadi_maildir_resource_0/ (the only local resource folder despite the error message resourceId: 3) are two files in trash/new but to remove them doesn't helped.

How can I reset the IMAP-Accounts in KMail? Or are there better ideas to solve the problem?

The following link may hopefully be of some help with your Kmail issues:

Thanks for your willingness to help!

Close before I read your message, I deleted the IMAP account with Akonadi Console. After that, Kontact starts normal again and I could create the IMAP account again.

But now is an unread message in the local folder > sent messages. I can't read it nor delete it with put all messages into trash. In ~/.local/share/akonadi_maildir_resource_0/sent-mail are no files/messages.

I didn't use the local folder, so can I ignore the message?

I believe the 'local trash folders' are part of the problem as I had very similar problems when I installed Kmail recently.

On first use all was OK but the next day, when I deleted an email, it crashed. Akonadiconsole sort of got things going again, allowing Kmail to run and (partly) download a new email. (Partly) because it only displayed the top line, click to read the complete mail = crash.

My impression is that Kmail can collect (and very probably send) emails perfectly but as soon anything is deleted or moved etc disaster is imminent.

I would love to be able to use Kmail as in the'old' days if only someone could restore it. I dislike, but use, web mail and want to use just KDE programmes.

So far I have had only one minor problem with KMail, involving akonadi, which akonadicontrol quickly fixed. For the last half a year it has been performing perfectly. I also have my gpg key integrated into KMail to sign emails.

Say no more! If it's OK for you GG

I'm a low level user, if it works for you I'll have another go but with minimal changes to set-up.

According to my problem, with the unread message in the Local Folders > Sent Messages which I can't read nor delete with put all messages into trash: I wonder whether I can delete the Local Folders account and recreate it? But Local Folders has the only Outbox - which is used by all IMAP accounts! If I delete Local Folders and than create it again, is there still a Outbox which can be used by the other accounts?

My problem yesterday was that anything I deleted crashed the prog - sorted by going into webmail, deleting the relevant items, restart Kmail which synchronised and all was correct. Not the answer but it got things sorted.

Today, started Kmail collecting normal mail + some test mails I had sent and...evrything worked perfectly. Delete a mail, there it was in wastebin, empty wastebin and it's gone. What changed? I have no idea.

I have not used Kmail in some long while. I don't remember the Local Folder in the old version - I thought each email address kept everything within its own set of folders but I could be totally mistaken. My confusion is that if I send an email from particular address I want the sent copy kept with that address, not in some general folder.

Have you tried moving the offending email to another folder to see if you can read and/or delete it there?
