    LuckyBackup

I recently upgraded from Kubuntu 14.04 to 16.04 (32 bit) with a clean install. On 14.04 I had Luckybackup (LB) set to do daily backups to an external hard disk (HD) and this worked fine.

I have set this up again on 16.04, but now there is a problem. The problem is consistent and relates to LB not recognising that the HD is mounted. Whenever the PC is restarted, all the nice green ticks in LB are replaced by ugly red crosses and refreshing LB has no effect. However, Dolphin shows the HD and opens it correctly. If I do open the HD using Dolphin and then refresh the backup on LB, the red crosses are replaced by green ticks.

So it appears that, in order to get LB to backup, every time the PC is restarted I have to open the HD in Dolphin, then go to LB and refresh it. Well, I can do this but it shouldn't be necessary. Can anyone suggest a solution?

The PC is a Dell Vostro Intel i686 with dual processors each 1GiB RAM, 2.4GHz. The HD is a Maxtor One Touch 500GiB USB2.0. Software is KDE Plasma 5.85, Frameworks Version 5.28.0, Qt Version 5.6.1, Kernal Version 4.4.0-59-generic.

Sounds like your system isn't mounting the external hard drive at boot up - which is normal. Dolphin is mounting it when you select it. Since this is Linux, there are several options to fix this.

You could mount it via fstab - probably not the best option.
You could write a udev rule to auto-mount the drive when detected - the most "correct" way to do it.
You could write script that runs at your log-in to mount it or add a mount line to mount it if detected - not the cleanest approach but should work.

My linux machine is down at the moment, but there used to be a "Automatically mount removable devices" option in system settings, look there first.

      Dear oshunluvr,
Thanks for this. I just tried a restart after going to System Settings>Removable Storage>Removable Devices and then enabling automatic mounting of removable media. Delighted to say that seems to have fixed it.
      Thanks, Michael.
