    xrdp - Connects but remote screen not displayed

    I am trying to use krdc to connect to another computer on my local network. The remote computer OS is Debian 8 (Jesse); xrdp and xrdp-sesman are both running on the remote machine which has KDE 4.14.2 installed and running. Both machines are 64 bit.

    When I try to connect, I get small window that displays the progress of the connection ending with connection OK. After a few seconds, the box closes, and the screen returns to the KDE Remote Desktop Client connection screen. The remote desktop is never displayed.

    This used to work when I was using Kubuntu 14.04. There have been no changes to the remote machine. The local machine has had all 16.04 updates applied, but I note that 16.04.1 is now available.

    Any ideas?
    Should I upgrade to 16.04.1, and if so is there an upgrade path other than a complete re-install?

    Thanks for your time.

    William.

    I can't help you with your remote connection problem but you should already have the latest point release of K16.04 if you have it up to date.

    Try this: cat /etc/os-release | grep VERSION= in the terminal to see what the exact version you have now is.

    The only difference from an upgraded version and a freshly downloaded ISO is the kernel version will be later in the downloaded ISO. For example in my K14.04.5 (originally K14.04.1 when installed) system the output of the above gives me:

    VERSION="14.04.5 LTS, Trusty Tahr"

    BUT, my kernel major version is locked at v3.13 unlike the ISO kernel which is now v4.4 because of the LTS Hardware Enablement Stack. BTW, it is possible to update the kernel to the latest version but I haven't bothered doing so.

      Have you considered using Teamviewer for the remote viewing on your local network? It is possible to use Teamviewer this way: https://www.teamviewer.com/en/help/4...twork-lan-only

      I recommend Teamviewer and use it a lot to connect to remote PC's over the internet to provide support for people. It is free for non-commercial use.
