    Mounting problem

    Why won't this work?
    Just to remind users and devs that Ubuntu and its flavors have a long way to go to be as usr friendly as they should be.

    In the VM, did you mount the VBoxGuestAdditions.iso before starting your VM, then once on the Desktop, launch Dolphin "as root" with kdesudo dolphin, selecting VBOXADDITIONS_5.0.20_106931 and double-clicking on VBoxLinuxAdditions.run?



    After that's done, you have to add yourself to the vboxsf group: sudo usermod -Ga your_username vboxsf

      I haven't installed the VM yet. I am trying to mount a new partition on the host. Look at the attached screen capture.

      Once I get this working and configure VB to put the VMs there instead of the install drive which is low on space then I am going to install Neon which was released on the 9th. People say its based on xenal but has fewer problems due to the proper kernel modules being included. That will be a relief. I keep hoping that Kubuntu will get this distro working properly but so far its still behind the 8 ball on kernel modules - Drivers as Microsoft calls them -. If KDE can do it for their new distro then what's taking Ubuntu so long?

        Did you create the directory in /media? The mountpoint must already exist in order for it to be mounted using fstab.

        Note also, that you included a trailing space in the fstab mountpoint. I don't think you intended that.

          I figured it was something silly like that. I will go take a look with sudo so I can edit it.

            I can't seem to figure this out. Now its saying wrong file system type on /dev/sdc2

                Finally!I changed the name of the mount point so I wouldn't have to mess with escape codes. I thought an option was called realtime but its spelled relatime. Anyway now it works right. I once saw a bumper sticker: 'To error is humane but, to really screw up is to use a computer.'

                  It seems VB can see it but when I went to create the VM , VB said that it couldn't create it. Must be a permission problem.I will look at this more later.

                    It was a Staples type problem - That was easy -. It just didn't set the write attribute when I changed the permissions. VB Has created the VHDD but now I need to build the vbox kernel module and so forth.

                        Do not try youtube videos with a Neon VM in VB as it slows way down!
