Looking for Dolphin search and wallpaper quality fixes

    Hello

I am looking for some solution with non working search in Dolphin.
I've checked the indexing and balooctl gives:

    Code:
    :~$ balooctl status
    Ideksowanie plików Baloo jest włączone
    Stan indeksowania: Bezczynny
    Zaindeksowano 7103 / 7103 plików
Current size of index is 15,79 MiB
So indexing is working and search in start menu works too.

And next question, why photo with very high resolution looks so ugly as wallpaper on 1280x1024 resolution?

    Thanks!

    Kubuntu 16.04
    Plasma 5.6.4
    Dolphin 15.12.3

    Hi
don't know about the first but i'd ask a question about the second.

Would you please very descriptive about how a "high resolution" image looks so bad as a wallpaper. To wit: is it stretched oddly or is it grainy or whatwver, please be particular.

Is it possible that it is "high resolution" but "small" and that when set to fill the screen it is rendered in some odd way.

Also, what is the picture file type? PNG has a variety of settings which can affect how it is rendered and your monitor may be set to "warm" or "cold" or something and PNG or whatever the image file type is has "dropped out" the particular "color setting" for the way that your monitor is set up.

      Thanks for answer.

I am trying to use my camera photos as wallpapers. They are 5000x3333px in JPG type. Even when i change their resolution to lower their quality is still low because of bad scalling.
The only way to keep their quality is to use them without scalling but as i have old screen format (4:3) i am getting black areas (backgrounds) on top and bottom of the wallpaper.
So there is probably no fix for that unfortunately.

If you have a picture that isn't scaled to that of your monitor, this will always be an issue. It isn't the fault of software or hardware.

Didn't had such problems on Windows (yup, newcomer) so i thought that may be Kubuntu issue.

Think of it this way: If you have a rectangular image, forcing it to take the shape of a square is going to distort the image; it's going to looked squeezed. And the reverse is true as well; a square image forced to fill up a rectangular screen is going to looked stretched.

But that still doesn't change that i didn't had this problem on Windows with the same photos with same resolution on the same display.

Check the Desktop Wallpaper settings you are using.

Now i changed to Centered for quality.
                  It looks like that:
Scaled and cropped - good quality, black backgrounds on top and bottom
Scaled - good quality but photos are looking unnaturally
Scaled with shape keep - good quality, black backgrounds on top and bottom
Centered - good quality, black backgrounds on top and bottom

Can I assume that you tried CTL-F for the search option in Dolphin?
Tell us what you have tried, please, and describe the result you see.

Ctrl + F works and finds everything in Dolphin but search on the left panel (by images, videos etc.) doesn't work for me. As i read that's common bug from a long time.
                      For example:
I search for "Arkusz" document and Ctrl + F finds it in seconds, using left panel search by documents ends with infinite "searching" and any results.

Ok, I see what you are talking about. Even back in 14.04, the selection buttons (Any, Documents, Image, Audio, Video) do not work.

I can do a search on files and it does find them (limited test of onlly a few filenames), but the file type filters cannot be selected.

I suspect that this is because I have disabled Baloo / Nepomuk indexing process. The KDE bug report site has at least one report of search failure when the the current path is not indexed:

                        https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=333715

There are other report of search failure already noted, but I did not look closely at all of them.

If you need these search options, then you might want to spend the time to go through the bug list and verify that this has either been found and/or fixed. If you can't find it then you can file a bug report too.

[Edit] I found this report from 2011 and the various comments may be help to you

                          Thanks, i will check it.

By the way, does comments and tags of files under icons in Dolphin works for you? When i add comments, tags etc. to the file they are visible only in right panel as in this image. White space under icon instead of text.

Working at here - the 'Search For' action is listing all Documents/Images/Audio/Video by category from the Baloo database.

What is the "Arkusz" document format ?
Is the Baloo indexing it as a document ?
