magnet links won't open in firefox

I've used countless distributions before and never seen this problem.
Trying to open magnet links in firefox gives me this page

I DID create network.protocol-handler.expose.magnet set to false in about:config, I even tried changing network.protocol-handler.external.magnet to true. I even tried switching those boolean values, restarting firefox each time. I only get that error page.
magnet doesn't appear anywhere in the Applications preference window.

I have ktorrent and I tried installing deluge and transmission, to no avail.

anything else I can try or do I have to resign to forever copy-pasting magnet links manually into ktorrent from now on?

after you create teh network.protocal-handler.expose.magnet you need to click on a magnet link again and you will be prompted to choose a program .
