I tried 16.04 from a multiboot USB drive to see if it would work on this old laptop. Everything
appeared to function correctly including reboot and shut down. So I performed a clean install
and now the OS works just like 14 and 15. When I tell the PC to shutdown everything
closes to a Kubuntu screen and then all activity stops except the machine never powers off.
If I tell the PC to reboot it closes to the same Kubuntu screen and again doesn't power
off or reboot. I have to hold the power switch to get it to turn off. So the question is why does
it work correctly from a thumb drive but not when a clean install? In version 13 it always shut down
properly.
