I was exploring features in the Plasma5 SystemSettings and decided to try "Online Accounts".
I was able to register my Google gmail account (protected by two-step verification), but when I tried to activate the Google Hangout plugin I was met with a dialog box that wanted me to RE-ENTER my email address ( ). However the box was disabled and no email address could be entered. The "Advanced" button was active but it led to a dialog that asked questions about the STUN address and other settings for which I had no information.
There are bug reports about this and other bugs which appear to be related to the incompatibility between the way Ubuntu and Kubuntu handles telepathy. They ended the bug report with this dismissal:

Please don't report Kubuntu bugs here.
This bug is fixed and is fixed properly from our side.
There is _NOTHING_ more we can do about that, this is purely
Kubuntu's bug now.
