FWIW that is how I installed Steam and it seems to run quite well.

I am glad I looked here before upgrading. I play a loot of games via Steam for Linux and Steam for Windows via PlayOnLinux/wine. I will keep an eye on this thread to see if it gets fixed before risking an update from 15.10.
Just to remind users and devs that Ubuntu and its flavors have a long way to go to be as usr friendly as they should be.

Hmm, according to NVIDIA x server app I am using driver version 352.63. Since Steam is already installed then it might work anyway.

I am running 16.04 and I used the deb package I downloaded on Jan 15th. It displayed both the main Steam GUI and that box you got showing an "out of date". I closed that box and proceeded to use the main GUI to install my CastleStory game and Uinverse^2 simulation. The Universe simulation ran better than it ever has before. Smooth as silk.

I have every source available in the repository activated but steam is not listed.

                  EDIT:
The i386 or amd64 latest Steam deb installer for 16.04 from "http://www.ubuntuupdates.org/package/core/xenial/multiverse/base/steam" is a broken link, but you can download it from here.

My "apt show steam" shows what your's shows, BUT, when I search for steam using the search bar from the "ALL" selection it shows nothing. When I scroll down to the "s"'s and look for it I do not see it.

The blue stuff is what my externally supplied steam deb package supplied. Apt show does show steam/xenial, as you can see, but neither Discover nor Synaptic show it when searched for or by scrolling the list.
