I tried running Kubuntu 16.04.1 on my recently purchased (from Costco) Asus Transformer 3 Pro T303UA tonight using an LG DVD player/burner that I have used successfully before with live DVDs that I check after downloading ISOs.
I got a tiny white login prompt in the upper left corner, but then no more DVD chatter and no GUI.
Before that I got the Kubuntu splash and logo on a black screen for a good while.
I was not sure what to try next and i have to turn to other things now.
I don't know how I should login and ask it to boot GUI, for example
But I welcome suggestions.
I was inspired by "industrialistic" on Reddit for his pioneering effort with Linux Mint 18 Cinnamon on the Asus hybrid. I prefer Kubuntu.

Meanwhile I am downloading Linux Mint 18 Cinnamon and will try it as a live DVD later when I can get to it.
