Any Kubuntu 16.04 user using ZTE, Huawei, D-Link of TP-Link without problem ?

I am working to get my old Lava 730G on Kubuntu. I am happy with this software and want to keep it as is.

Only problem is 730G works but I have to change the USB port every time I disconnect and connect. That is OK for a few times, I need a permanent solution.

Quite a few modems are available on Amazon.in ZTE, Huawei, D-Link, NETGEAR and TP-Link.
I want to place an order. But before that I would like to know what works on Kubuntu 16.04. I read in many posts in Ubuntu that Huawei modems work, but Huawei gives the procedure for Linux installation in a .pdf which also states at the end that we may have to change the USB port if it does not connect after disconnection. That is back to square one, where I am. I have installed modem switch and Sakis3G. Nothing seems to be working.

Thanks for any help. Anyone using these modems on Kubuntu can tell me this info.

I am thrilled to report back that my Lava USB modem is working at higher speed than ever.
Time is 1.08 AM. I will post the details to-morrow. I learnt a lot visiting these pages.

Now I know that all the USB modems I have asked about are supported by Kubuntu 16.01. They work out of the box. Modeswitch has all of them listed with Manufacturer's ID, Product ID. After reading whatever I could come across this is my acquired knowledge. This is to help anyone who want to buy USB modems.
Information:
Modem installation can be done using a cable not having more length than 15 feet. That is USB limit.
Read 440-usb_modeswitch.rules located at: /lib/udev/rules.d to get an idea what are supported devices in Kubuntu.

If I am wrong someone please correct me.

Modem problem solved, What to buy and what to expect

I would like share some information with this thread, so that others can benefit from my experience.

I had a lot of problems with my old Lava 730G. Installed Sakis3g script, automation config file so on and on.... I felt I am wasting too much time. I checked all the USB sticks available at Amazon.in. I asked quite a few seller”s. “does their modem support Linux(Ubuntu)”.

No response. After digging I found ZTE MF197 works with Linux. And this was the cheapest of all modems. I just placed an order. I got it to-day.Plugged it in and switched on the system. To my surprise it was showing as wired network connected. I checked browsing.....excellent speed. No configuration, nothing. Out of the box it just works with Kubuntu 16.4.

No documentation with the modem.I knew that we can check SMS in this modem. But how.Searched the web, got the answer. Type 192.168.1.1 in the browser. I got the result: SMS utility with address-book and a lots of information about the connection and statistics. So my search for a workable modem with SMS facility ended here, happily.

I have posted some images. One showing network connected, Okla speed test and SMS utility. Hope this helps any one who needs to buy a USB modem. Speed may not be very high, but for browsing and watching video speed is more than sufficient. I have mounted the modem on the roof in a pipe.Signal strength shows full, in statistics output.
