    desktop computer crashes and reboots

I'm sure this is hardware and not an OS problem. I'm actually in Kubuntu 14.04 LTS, but I don't think that has anything to do with the problem. I'm using a refurbished HP Slimline desktop (this one: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16883282323). The thing suddenly and without warning reboots. There's no shut down sequence, no Kubuntu logo or anything. Sometimes it happens during the night. I get up and know it did it because I have to log in and none of my Firefox tabs are up anymore and none of my apps are open. Sometimes it happens in the middle of work. One time the screen froze covered with jibberish. Another time the screen went black suddenly. Each time, the PC rebooted.

For a while I had a mat that I hated under my desk and chair. It was a rubber mat covered in carpet and seemed to generate static electricity. I suspected it may be causing the problem, so I got rid of it. For a while I used the computer on the regular carpet. Just today I bought a proper mat specifically for computer desks (made out of vinyl or whatever?).

This thing is less than a year old so it's still under warranty. I can prove when I bought it via a printout from my New Egg purchase. Of course, I gag at the thought of sending it in. I do work on this PC every day. Of course, I would still be able to use my laptop, so at least I could still get my work done.

What do you think it is? I suspect I've got a finicky power supply, but I'm not sure. If that's what it indeed is, I'm capable of fixing it myself, though it would cost money for the part.
Kubuntu 22.04 (desktop & laptop), Windows 7 &2K (via VirtualBox on desktop PC)
