    Enable coolbits

I cant seem to find a way to enable cool bits, I have tried various guides. But nothing sticks.

Looking in /usr/lib/X11/xorg.conf.d I dont see any way to add coolbits to configuation, not that I know which file to modify in the first place.

/etc/x11/xorg.cong dosent exist and creating config - xconfig with sudonvidia-xconfig and then setting coolbits with sudonvidia-xconfig --cool-bits=5, seems to be over written upon restart.
I tried this script, nvidiux it worked last night but when I started computer this morning the options to control fan speed and overclock card where gone from nvidia settings.

Can someone help me out here?

set up the xorg.conf that gives you the coolbits then copy it to /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d as "20-nvidia.conf" the options should get picked up and used and not get over written ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,

      Vinny, thanks for you're response.

Before I try what you have suggested, I would like to get you're thoughts on whether gpu manager may be causing this problem. I found this thread https://forums.linuxmint.com/viewtopic.php?t=210737 , and this is exactly what I am seeing when trying to use coolbits.

xorg.conf isn't really used anymore and will be removed when you update. Read this thread and you'll see the newer way to set up your nvidia config:
