Ref: On-Screen Keyboard on Login?
As far as I can tell, there is still no way to get a virtual keyboard running on SDDM, which is the display manager of 16.04.
It's 2016 and you simply can't run KDE on a tablet — for the simple reason that there is not even an onscreen keyboard to accomplish login from SDDM, or a virtual keyboard to get back into the system from screenlock. I did a lot of googling on this, and it does not even seem that there is any kind of serious work in this direction under way. So why are all these developers spending their time on these re-designs (Wayland, anyone?), if it does not really lead to new functionality or compatibility with additional devices?
