I thought this might be of some help to others as it was to me:
I noticed that my system time was running slow (using http://time.is) even though I had "set date and time automatically" checked in Date and Time settings. I figured out that for some reason Xenial does not come with ntp installed. After a simple sudo apt install ntp it's working fine now.
