I think Steam for Linux may be revealing a bug in connection manager. If it is downloading then every few minutes it loses the IP connection requiring a reboot to fix. I assume connection manager makes a log some place so where is it please so I can look to see if I may be on to something. I will make a report on bugzilla but first I want to figure out more so I can make a useful bug report.

Just to remind users and devs that Ubuntu and its flavors have a long way to go to be as usr friendly as they should be.

sounds like a possible hardware / driver problem .. first off what is the networking hardware involved what driver is running it (lshw should tell you under network) . secondly how are you connected (wire/wireless) . do you get anything helpful from the logs (dmesg or journalctl ) .Mark Your Solved Issues [SOLVED]

are you writing to that ntfs volume from the steam client? if so try changing to another drive and see if that helps . ntfs-3g (the driver for ntfs) is far from perfect.
releases are in April xx.04 and October xx.10
its always been this wayMark Your Solved Issues [SOLVED]

That's an ext4 volume /dev/sdc/ Steam for Linux1. I am going to go ahead and try upgrading to 16.04 maybe it will fix the problem.Just to remind users and devs that Ubuntu and its flavors have a long way to go to be as usr friendly as they should be.

I think you released 16.04 to early it should have stayed in testing longer. I keep getting lose of IP assignment requiring a reboot to fix. Reloging won't do it, nor will a warm boot. It has to be a cold boot or it doesn’t work. Reseting the gateway doesn’t do anything. The PC has to be cold booted. I haven't found what cause it or I would file a bug report. Also Running the restart script doesn't always work. Sometimes it hangs for several minutes, other-times it only takes a few seconds. I don't think you completely fixed it from the 15.10 problem.Last edited by steve7233; Apr 23, 2016, 09:49 PM.Just to remind users and devs that Ubuntu and its flavors have a long way to go to be as usr friendly as they should be.

did u you upgrade to 16.04 >? maybe its a bad upgrade if you have try a clean install or run from the live disc if that is not helping then,
Try the previous LTS (14.04) in live mode and see if you networking works better. it could possibly be a regression in the driver it ifs not the hardware acting up .
and if steam is your main consern you might want to just run 14.04 for awhile. there is 3 more years untill it loses support and by them 16.04 will have had more time released so 3rd parties can get their stuff working correctly on it.Mark Your Solved Issues [SOLVED]
